RENEW International Book on the Gospel of Luke Wins Award for Excellence
Association of Catholic Publishers recognizes Luke: My Spirit Rejoices!
Luke: My Spirit Rejoices!—a publication of RENEW International—is a winner in the 2016 Excellence in Publishing Awards from the Association of Catholic Publishers. The goal of these awards is to recognize the best in Catholic publishing. RENEW International is a Catholic ministry and publishing organization.
Luke: My Spirit Rejoices! received the second-place award in the “Scripture” category. This book, developed for small-group faith sharing or personal reflection, consists of thirty-six sessions that engage readers with the entire Gospel of Luke, and includes reflections on the content of the Gospel, the human behavior illuminated in Luke’s work, and the Old Testament background for each passage. Each session includes prayers, scripture reading, reflection, faith-sharing questions, and suggested action steps.
Author Martin Lang developed the book for RENEW International. Dr. Lang was director of the Master’s Degree Program in Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry and professor of Religious Studies at Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut. Professor Lang holds a doctorate from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale Divinity School and at Union Theological Seminary-Jewish Theological Seminary.
Dr. Lang will be signing his award-winning book at two upcoming events. On Wednesday, June 15, he will be at the Fairfield University Bookstore in Fairfield, CT at 7 PM. The following Saturday, June 18, he will be attending the NY Catholic Bible Summit in New York, NY and will be signing books from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon at the RENEW International table. According to Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP, president and executive director of RENEW International, “Luke: My Spirit Rejoices! reflects RENEW’s commitment to developing high-quality resources that engage small-group members and individuals more deeply in their faith and encourage gospel living. The many stories of healing presented by Luke fit well with the Year of Mercy and also offer insights into the Sunday gospel readings this liturgical year, which draw from Luke’s gospel.”
Each category was judged by an expert three-person panel. First-, second-, and third-place winners will be awarded at the Catholic Marketing Network annual show in July 2016 in Schaumberg, IL.
Awards were also given for books falling into eight other categories: Biography, Children’s, General Interest, Inspirational, Prayer and Spirituality, Resources for Ministry, Scripture, and Theology.
The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) is a membership organization of Catholic publishers that provides opportunities for members to further the Catholic publishing industry, promote Catholic publishing and reading, and engage those they interact with, including retailers, pastoral leaders, individual customers, and staff.
