RENEW International’s Spanish Publication
Recognized for Excellence
Designated as Finalist among Catholic Publishers
RENEW International’s newest faith-sharing resource for Latino Catholics, No Temas, María, has been selected as a finalist for this year’s “Excellence in Publishing Awards” given by the Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP). These awards, which will be given out at the Religious Booksellers Trade Exhibit (RBTE) in May 2013, recognize the best in Catholic publishing.
No Temas, María, was designated within the “Spanish” category. “Spanish” titles may encompass a variety of spiritual themes, but they must be originally published in Spanish for the U.S. market.
This book, developed for small-group faith sharing or personal reflection, consists of six sessions that reflect on Mary as both the mother and the first disciple of Jesus, the one person who was with him from the manger to the cross. Each session includes prayers, scripture reading, reflection, faith-sharing questions, and suggested action steps. The book also includes a section with devotional prayers to Mary, especially the Rosary.
Noted author Dr. Adele Gonzalez developed the book for RENEW International combining her deep knowledge of theology and spirituality with a keen understanding of the religious and cultural perspectives of Spanish-speaking Catholics.
According to Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP, president and executive director of RENEW International, “No Temas, María reflects RENEW’s commitment to developing high quality resources that meet the needs of the growing Latino Catholic population. It is also a great fit with the Year of Faith emphasis on the role of Mary.”
Each category was judged by a three-person panel, which reviewed and evaluated the entries. Finalists will move on to the final round of judging. First, second, and third place winners will be announced at the RBTE.
Awards will also be given for books falling into eight other categories: Biography, Curriculum, General Interest, Inspirational, Prayer and Spirituality, Resources for Ministry, Scripture, and Theology. A "Book of the Year" will be named from among the first-place finishers of the nine categories.
The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) is a membership organization of Catholic publishers, those who provide services to Catholic publishers, and individuals who work with Catholic publishers.
